Rumor: Ubisoft’s The Division and The Crew Coming To Current Gen Consoles

As I mentioned yesterday, there was much to do about seamless single to multiplayer transition in new games at E3. The Division and The Crew were just some of Ubisoft’s games incorporating this feature, as well as the idea of the open world game. It became synonymous with the future of gaming, to create a more engaging experience with fellow players at the flick of a switch.

However, if a rumor told to Examiner’s Nicholas Gigante is true, it looks like it might not be capable exclusively on next gen consoles. As well as PC, it looks like The Division and The Crew will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in addition to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Both expected to launch in 2014, Ubisoft plans to follow the established industry protocol and support cross-gen gaming for at least a year after the completed launch of 8th gen consoles.

This will be pleasant news for people waiting to see the hardware capabilities of the next gen consoles over time. Xbox 360 had a one year advantage in its launch date over the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 3, yet produced roughly a 54.2% failure rate in what is typically called the “Red Ring of Death.” Some consumers wish to avoid this situation again, and can do so while still enjoying Ubisoft’s new game collection.

As there has been no official comment made by Ubisoft, this remains simply a rumor. However, the source predicted the reveal of The Crew weeks before its announcement, so it looks to be a safe bet. We’ll just have to wait and see.
