New York Islanders

The Islanders failed to live up to their potential as they crashed and burned after an initial strong start to the year. They were unable to take advantage of John Tavares’ incredible season, who scored 41 goals and contributed with 51 assists, making him the highest points scorer in the entire Eastern Conference.

Kyle Okposo and Nick Leddy also had great seasons with over 50 points each, although Michael Grabner failed to perform to expectations. Ryan Strome, Frans Nielsen and Brock Nelson all contributed to the team’s points totals significantly as well.

Defensively, however, the Islanders were a mess. Only the aforementioned Leddy performed to the required standard, while Johnny Boychuk had an uncharacteristically poor season.

Thomas Greiss and Jaroslav Halák shared the goaltending duties evenly, and neither of them were able to get into any kind of rhythm over the 82-game season, although Halák fared a little better with a 2.5 GAA and .913 SV %.
