Rumor: GTA 5 For Xbox One/PS4 In June?

A German retailer has tweeted that Grand Theft Auto 5, long rumored to be coming to next gen consoles, will in fact be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in June.

Grand Theft Auto V would be the latest in a long line of last-gen titles coming to next-gen systems with an shinier coat of paint such as Tomb Raider, Rayman Legends and the recently announced port of The Last of Us for PS4.

Some of these ports make at least a little sense. Despite it selling millions, Ubisoft constantly claimed Tomb Raider didn’t meet sales expectations so I can see squeezing out another version. Barely anybody bought Rayman so same deal there. The Last of Us was a big hit, but there are definitely people who own a PS4 who never owned a PS3.

However, as Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 30 million copies on last gen, I think any console owners who want it have picked it up by now and thoroughly gotten their enjoyment out of it. A PC release makes sense, especially since the modding community would go nuts on it. A GOTY edition might make more sense, but considering no add-on DLC has been released as of yet, June would seem far too soon for such a release.

Frankly, I’d take this with a very thin grain of salt. Retailers are fairly notorious for just throwing up release dates for stuff with no reason behind it and no confirmation of anything. That being said, I would not be surprised if a next-gen version on Grand Theft Auto 5 showed up at some point, just not in the next couple of months.

What do you think Gamesided readers? Are you excited for a next-gen version of GTA 5? Or are you tired of all these next-gen upgrades of last-gen titles and ready for some new original titles? Let us know in the comments!
