Is Nintendo Working On Licensing Deals?

facebooktwitterreddit

During Nintendo’s investor briefing on Wednesday night — Thursday morning local time — the company announced that it is going to become more flexible in terms of its licensing policies. While the company wont just let everybody and anybody take and use what they want, the powers that be are discussing allowing other companies access to its wide stable of first-party characters.

According to analyst David Gibson, the company knows that allowing external developers to create content using its characters could be good for business and company profits. Nintendo is going to constantly keep an eye on the situation, however, to make sure that its not undermining the company’s plans.

It’s unclear how Nintendo plans to go about licensing out its characters to other developers and publishers, but the thought of other companies building games around the likes of Zelda, Kirby and Mario has to have some creators foaming at the mouth.
