EA Games’ Moore: ‘We Don’t Ship A Game At EA That Is Offline’

Speaking to Engadget over the weekend at gamescom, EA Games COO Peter Moore restated his dedication to online play by saying “We don’t ship a game at EA that is offline.”

"It just doesn’t happen. And gamers either want to be connected so their stats and achievements reflect who they are, or you want the full multiplayer experience on top of that. We don’t deliver offline experiences anymore."

The context of what Moore is saying is that EA Games wants to bring a free-to-play options for most of their major franchises. Being able to play a company’s games without absolutely requiring to spend money will definitely bring a lot more potential consumers to your brand. However, EA Games has a history of less than popular online services, including online passes and microtransactions in games like Simcity and Dead Space 3.

Moore’s company is not the only one making its transition to a bigger online world. Upcoming games like Titanfall, The Crew, Tom Clancy’s The Division and more all seem to either incorporate seamless single-multiplayer play or heavily feature online play. It just seems that these kind of games will leave areas of the world with expensive/low quality internet connection back in the 7th generation while the rest of the world would be advancing to a new future. Hopefully EA Games will truly aim for free to play, instead of pay to win.
