Future PlayStation 4 owners will be able to stream and share their gameplay without having to subscribe to the PlayStation Plus annual fee.

The report was confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios for Sony Entertainment Inc., on twitter in a reply to many of Sony’s fans.

This latest update has immediately been compared to the news that the Xbox One’s equivalent features will be available exclusively to Xbox Live Gold members.

Sony has been known for offering PlayStation online services to its fans for free, but announced at E3 this year that they would be moving to a subscription based service with the PS4. Similarly to Xbox Live, PS4 users will need to subscribe to a $50 annual fee to play online games.

With the gaming world emphasizing streaming and sharing gameplay, and the Xbox One and PS4 integrating Twitch Tv and Ustream, the DVR capabilities of both next-gen consoles has been a hotly discussed topic.

Xbox One revealed that their recording unit would record at 720p and have a five minute limit, while the PlayStation 4 is expected to be able to record a total of 15 minutes.

With even more details out on the table, will Microsoft once again retract due to fan backlash?

Microsoft ended up changing their minds on its “always-online” and used game features. The company also recently announced they would now be including a headset with every new Xbox One console.

Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is expected to release worldwide later this year.
