Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, an action hack-and-slash Metal Gear Solid spinoff title, may be getting a spinoff. On the Metal Gear Solid home page, there is a link at the bottom asking for participants in a Metal Gear fan survey. Among the general questions about age, gender, console devices owned and genre favorites; one question that stood out among the rest.

"If the sequel to Metal Gear Rising were available, what would you expect from the game?"

From this, we can gather that Konami is planning, or has taken into consideration the planning, of a sequel to the Metal Gear Rising title that came out earlier this year.

The spinoff series featuring Raiden, a katana-wielding cyborg bent on preserving the peace and destabilizing the war economy against evil Private Military Companies, was developed by Platinum Games. They are the development studio that created Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns and the upcoming The Wonderful 101. While Metal Gear Rising is a direct spinoff, the events take place in the same world as Solid Snake and Big Boss characters, meaning the events that took place fit into the universe’s canon.

How the events of a sequel to Metal Gear Rising may affect the stories of the series’ other protagonists has yet to be seen. The upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain title, directed by Hideo Kojima, will take place over 1975-1984, some 34-43 years before the events of Rising. However, knowing Kojima’s penchant for retconning the continuity of the Metal Gear series, nothing is sacred and the entire histories of characters’ back stories is up for discussion.
