PlayStation 4 Passes FCC Regulation

Via engadget.comAs we get closer to the holiday season, the closer we get to the release of Sony and Microsoft’s next gen consoles. Before they can be released, however, they need to go through the leaps and hurdles that is US bureaucracy. Luckily for Sony, according to Engadget, the PlayStation 4 has already passed the FCC’s regulation process and has the paperwork necessary to sell the console in the US.

This doesn’t mean that the console will be coming out next month, or perhaps even in the next three months. It does, however, allow for speculation on whether or not the PlayStation 4 will be released before the Xbox One. While correlation =/= causation, the Xbox One is still yet to be approved of by the FCC, despite it being a console from an American-based company in Microsoft.

Interesting notes:

  • It runs a max clock frequency of 2.75 GHz
  • Marks of “Made in China” and “Made in Japan” suggest multiple manufacturing locations
  • Although it states an operating temperature of 5-35 C, this suggests the optimal temperature in which the console should be stored
  • The console’s dimensions are 27.5 x 30.5 x 5.3, making it the thinnest PlayStation console since the super slim PS2. Also, it is just fractionally larger than the smallest of current PS3’s, which have only been out for nine months

The PlayStation 4 is expected to launch in North America this holiday season.
