In true Comic-Con fashion (these days), there’s a lot of exciting new video game news coming out of the San Diego convention. Today is no exception, especially when it comes to Soul Calibur news.

Continuing the ever-so-popular trend of giving seemingly every popular 6th generation game an HD Remake, Soul Calibur II will not only provide a graphics upgrade but provide online play for its first time.

It’s not entirely sure why Namco is remaking this fighting game. They only just released Soul Calibur V eighteen months ago, which is also on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Soul Calibur V also features 28 characters, 10 of which are new to that title. Plus, they are not selling the game on the Wii U, meaning that Link as a playable character (as he was on the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur) will unlikely be available.

It seems that the company wants to cash in on the nostalgia factor, which they are more than entitled to do. It’s just that fighting games are meant to be advanced upon, with newer titles adding newer features and characters to play from. For Soul Calibur II to get an HD remaster, along with online play, will be a bonus to fighting game fans and fans of the series. Does it need a remaster is another discussion.
