Sony Shutting Down Multiplayer For SOCOM 4, MAG In 2014

For fans of the military shooters MAG and SOCOM 4, you better get your online play in now before it’s too late. Sony has announced that it will be shutting down the multiplayer servers for the two games in early 2014.

SOCOM 4 was the latest in the SOCOM Navy Seals series, but unfortunately never took off like its predecessors. MAG, on the other hand, was a whole different story.

A brilliant concept, MAG was the first massively multiplayer first-person shooter that was online only. It supported up to 256 players at once, and split the players up into eight squads.  Despite the great idea, and positive reviews, MAG was never able to build a big enough following to warrant keeping the servers up anymore.

When the servers for these titles go down, MAG will become unplayable due to being an online only title whereas SOCOM 4 players can still play the single player campaign.

Sound off Gamesiders! Are you upset to see the servers of these two games be shut down? Do any of you out there still player either one, or even both, of these titles? Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.
