New Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection Trailer Released

When “Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection” releases exclusively for PlayStation 3 on July 9 (or July 11 in Japan), people will finally get the answer to one of gaming’s most enduring questions: do the plot twists and revelations of the Snake saga make any more sense when absorbed all at one time?

All jokes aside, it’s tough to believe that 2012 marked the 25th anniversary of the first “Metal Gear” game, and a testament to its staying power that the brand is still relevant today. “The Legacy Collection” gathers what is essentially the entirety of Hideo Kojima’s contributions to the series, from the original game that most people remember fondly from the NES days to the 2010 PSP title “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.”

The package also features the “Metal Gear Solid” graphic novels in motion comic form, as well as a booklet that examines the material used to promote the games over the years. And while most of the games in the collection have been available in previous compilations or as bonuses (like “Metal Gear” was with “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater”), it’s still a pretty sweet deal to get them all in one place for $49.99.

To hype up the collection, Konami went public with a trailer that was previously shown only at the company booth at E3. Ponder the crazy history of Solid Snake, Big Boss, and the rest of the gang, and enjoy:
