Surge Of Video Game Movies Continues With Mega Man

To add to the list of upcoming movies based on video games (now including World of Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed, and Borderlands movies), a Mega Man movie has been announced by 20th Century Fox and Chernin entertainment.

It’s right to be skeptical, given that so many video game movies have flopped miserably, but there is some hope with Chernin Entertainment on board. Chernin Entertainment, and the producer Peter Chernin specifically, are known for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, both successful films, with War of the Planet of the Apes on its way in 2017. David Ready and Michael Finfer will be overseeing the production for Chernin Entertainment, and Mike Ireland and Ryan Horrigan will be overseeing for Fox.

Even so, it’s hard to get excited about a Mega Man movie, when it’s clear what fans are desperate for is another Mega Man game, preferably with the life and energy the series once had. Such a film would surely cater to the older audience who remembers the games, too, and might find it difficult to attract new fans who are so far removed from the series. It will also be interesting to see which game they pick for a storyline to base it off of, or if they’ll create a completely new adventure. We’ll see what happens as more details come to light.
