Project CARS Will Enjoy Free Monthly Vehicle DLC
When it comes to racing games, it is only recently that they have become vehicles (pun intended) for extensive microtransactions in full-priced games. Forza Motorsport 5 had some egregious restrictions in car unlocks that necessitated them, while Gran Turismo 6 required $20M of in-game cash to purchase the most expensive cars (which gave way to expensive cash purchases to cover said cost). That’s why it’s amazing to hear that Project CARS will include free monthly vehicle DLC following the game’s probable May release, as confirmed on their website.
“Free” is never free, however, as the first vehicle offered for Project CARS patrons will be the W Motors Lykan Hypersport, which is prominently featured in the upcoming Furious 7 movie that features the likes of Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It is unclear whether or not there will be some sort of marketing tie-in for each car provided for free each month, but having one of the biggest movies of April release their car in a video game more than a month after its release just to extend its multimedia reach is quite telling.

“We are immensely pleased to have this awesome machine in the game and to give fans the chance to get behind the wheel of a truly amazing vehicle,” Project CARS creative director Andy Tudor stated. “The Lykan Hypersport represents the first of a series of free cars we’ll be giving away every month as a thank you to our fans for being so patient for the launch of the game. We’ll have more info on the full schedule of further content for Project CARS soon but we hope that this is a great sneak peek of just one way in which Project CARS is going to expand in the future.”
Project CARS is expected to be released mid-May for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with the Wii U version release date unconfirmed. However, after multiple delays in development that goes back to last year, we cannot confirm hard release dates.
