Square Enix Will Announce New RPG That Isn’t Mobile

If you’re like me, then you’re constantly disappointed by how much effort Square Enix puts into their mobile gaming efforts over making a new console RPG. With Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts “x” amount of years away, each mobile game announced is just another stab through the heart from the company that made most of my favorite RPG’s in the 1990’s. However, if Siliconera is to be believed (they should), then we may be hearing about a new RPG property fairly soon.

More from News

In an interview with Games Talk, Yosuke Matsuda, Square Enix president, revealed that a new gaming property will be announced this December. “We’re preparing a brand new RPG title that is for consoles, and that is not a remake,” he proclaimed. “We’ll make sequential announcements for it starting December.”

The only thing I have concern for here is that he didn’t indicate what kind of console this new Square Enix RPG will live on. We all know about Bravely Default now, and the possibility of strength in a new RPG from the company, yet without indicating if the console was a handheld or a home console still leaves intrigue. Hopefully, we can expect a new PS4/Xbox One JRPG from Square Enix sometime in the future, as non-action RPG’s are still rare to find in the new generation of consoles.
