Smash Bros Direct: Masterpieces Are A Taste Of Old School Cool

facebooktwitterreddit

In today’s Smash Bros Nintendo Direct, yet another new mode was revealed. The Wii U exclusive Masterpieces mode will allow you to take a peek into the pasts of retro fighters such as Mario, Samus, and Link.

Masterpieces feature cut down versions of old school games. Some of the games have pre-installed save data, but all games come with a time limit, after which it will end your demo. Demos provide an easy link to the Nintendo eShop, in case you want to purchase the full version of the game for the Virtual Console. Game demos shown during the direct are:

  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Kirby’s Dream Land
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Pac-Man
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Wrecking Crew
  • Balloon Fight
  • Metroid
  • Kid Icarus
  • Punch-out!!
  • Donkey Kong
  • Mega-Man 2
  • Pilot-Wings
  • Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels
  • Dr. Mario
  • F-Zero
  • Kirby’s Super Star
  • Kid Icarus
  • Earthbound
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Super Metroid
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  • Super Mario Bros

Kind of a gimmick at this point, but a nice touch offering free demos for those Smash Bros fans who may not know the origins of all the fighters.
