Robin Williams To Receive World of Warcraft Tribute

As you are likely aware of, Robin Williams has passed away recently in an apparent suicide. He was 63. As much as he loved to perform for the masses, Mr. Williams was also an ardent fan of video games, including the likes of World of Warcraft, PortalHalf-Life and Portal, among others he had not publicly mentioned. He loved the Zelda series so much that he named his daughter after the legendary video game princess. Now, thanks to a Change.org petition, Robin Williams will live on not only in television and film mediums, but in the video game realm, as well.

While it’s not explicit in stating way Robin Williams will live on in the world of Azeroth, it is clear that the developers of World of Warcraft will be creating some sort of memorial or tribute of his collective works and time as a player of the game; perhaps even as a character. With Blizzard employees assuring Jacob Holgate, the creator of the petition, that they would handle the Robin Williams “tribute and or NPC…with great care,” and knowing how dedicated Blizzard has been to their pop culture references and influences within WoW, it’s easy to rest assured knowing that it will be something worthy of mention that comes with great respect for the actor.

Even after the harsh realities of his passing, it’s great to see Robin Williams be remembered in all aspects of his career, and in his personal passions, that he enjoyed while escaping the demons that unfortunately overwhelmed him in the end. I’m not one to usually mourn or feel pain for the loss of an actor, but it just hurts me to come to terms with the fact that a man, who helped so many people laugh and escape their troubles, couldn’t escape his very own. Rest in peace, Robin.
