Sonic Boom Games Speed Toward November Release Dates

November 2014 is quickly becoming the new October 2014 (or, typically, the same ol’ busy November year in and year out). The SEGA blog has revealed today that the Sonic Boom games, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for the Nintendo 3DS has received a November 11th release date, and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for the Nintendo Wii U has received a November 18 release date. Both dates are for North America, while other region release dates are TBA.

The release of the video games are arguably not the focus for Sega right now, oddly enough, as the games will serve to boost interest in the Sonic Boom cartoon show coming later this year. It’s a weird place for the games company to be in, especially when you consider, weirder yet, the dozen new characters headed to the series. It’s just part of the Nintendo exclusivity contract to produce Sonic games, one that was rumored to be abandoned in favor of releasing games on the Xbox One and PS4.

I would be more upset about the entire situation, but Sonic isn’t quite the name character he once was. Just like how Pacman fell to the wayside, the recent entries into the series of games haven’t lived up to past excellence. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t at least excitement for either’s inclusion in the upcoming Super Smash Bros games! Who knows, perhaps even these Sonic Boom entries can prove to capture some of that old magic.

Here’s what the Wii U Sonic Boom game looks like on its cover, by the way. It’s coming out exclusively for the Wii U on November 18th, while Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal will be released a week earlier exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS.
