Luigi Death Stare Featured In Latest Mario Kart 8 Commercial

It was hinted at during the Nintendo Digital Event at E3 2014, but now there is no doubting the power of the “Luigi Death Stare.” Polygon has noted that the infamous glance Luigi uses when passing an opponent in Mario Kart 8 has made itself a prominent feature in the latest commercial for the game coming out of Japan (seen above).

It’s not just the Luigi show, as the video also shows close up action of Mario, Donkey Kong, Baby and Regular Peach and Rosalina, Koopa Troopa and Toad all get a share of the limelight, passing each other’s karts in slow motion set to some sort of melodic chanting. But, of course, there’s no better marketing material than the inadvertent addition of the menacing, fear-inducing stare that has now been come to be the Luigi hallmark. The year of Luigi may have come and passed, but the haunting memories of being passed by the taller Mario brother in Mario Kart 8 will never be forgotten.
