Former Call of Duty Devs Create New Studio, Bland Name

After Respawn Entertainment was created after founders broke away from working on perpetual new Call of Duty games by creating a first-person shooter at a company with a name relating to a multiplayer shooter term, it looks like another company will look to capture that same lightning in a bottle. A source at IGN pointed them at the direction of a website for a brand new games development studio called Reload Studios, co-founded by two developers who worked on multiple games of the famous Call of Duty series.

Their website reveals the grander scale of what the developers at Reload Studios are trying to accomplish, especially with their launch press release. “Reload intends to produce immersive interactive experiences for the emerging virtual reality and mobile markets, as well as traditional consoles,” the release notes.

“People are always looking for something new,” co-founder Taehoon Oh remarked. “Just as smartphones changed the way we live our lives, I am sure VR will change the way people experience media content.  As a game developer, this realization compelled me to become part of a new team that focuses on developing VR content.”

The release goes on to note that the mostly-former-Infinity-Ward employees at Reload Studios are currently working on a first-person shooter for VR and mobile, while counting next-gen consoles third and last. It appears as though that the company’s prerogative is to focus on mobile and VR, with console gaming as the cool bonus that won’t receive the brunt of their focus.

Other than the unimaginative name (seriously, what’s next? Loadout?), you can feel the ambition oozing off of the page when it comes to what it appears Reload Studios has in mind. Creating for VR and mobile primarily as a new studio with former Call of Duty developers? With their first game intended for release next year? Who knows, we could see the early forming of a pioneer company set to embark uncharted game development waters.

We’ll be on the lookout for more Reload Studios news in the months ahead, when they will start revealing what they’ve been working on.
