Well ain’t that a chip off the old block! According to the Minecraft stats page, the popular stylized Indie sandbox game has been bought on the PC and Mac more than 16 million times. They do not count pirated copies of the game, meaning the amount of times “acquired” or “maintained” on computing devices is likely more than a million in addition to their accurate numbers.

Additionally, CVG notes that the most popular version of the game remains as the Minecraft Pocket Edition, which reached more than 21 million units sold back in April. The cumulative number of times the game was purchased overall, based off of dated reports (indicating the lowest possible number) adds up to more than 54 million for the entire franchise.

It’s crazy to think that it is one of top 30 best-selling video game franchises of all time based off of just one entry. Plus, with Minecraft coming to the PS4, Xbox One and to hundreds of PS Vita devices this August, it will only continue to sell millions of unforeseen amounts of units for years to come. Notch really knocked it out of the park with this one, allowing him the free time to do as many eccentric things that he wants to do possible. Weird Notch is funny Notch, so more power to him.
