The announced forever ago and seemingly never coming out PS Vita version of Borderlands 2 finally has a set release date of May 6th, alongside the US release of the PS Vita Slim which will launch on the same day according to VG24/7. The two will come in a bundle along with a 8gb memory card for $199. The Vita Slim also comes with 1GB of internal memory as opposed to the current models which have none. The Vita port of Borderlands 2 will also include 6 DLC packs and after a future patch for the PS3 version, you’ll be able to cross-save between the two versions according to an article up on IGN. Here’s a trailer for the Vita version of Borderlands 2:

It’s no secret that the Vita is struggling especially here in the US where it barely takes up shelf space. Will a new slim model and a functional port of one of the best games of 2011 really help spur sales? I seriously doubt it. Don’t get me wrong, Borderlands on the go holds a lot of appeal and will be a really impressive technical achievement, but I think it’s too little too late for Sony’s portable. Which is sad.

I own a Vita and it’s a fantastic little system with lots of great titles. Granted, there’s not really that one system seller that you can show to anybody and say “this is why I bought this system and why you should too”. But there are lots of great games to play on it, especially RPGs on the go or fun indy titles. I do wish they’d make the memory more affordable, it’s a virtual necessity and is ridiculously overpriced. An 8gb card for instance will fill up incredibly fast with the Vita’s primary strength being as a digital platform along with a ton of free games with a PS Plus membership.  Higher memory cards start at around $50 when all they really are is a Sony brand SD card which usually run far less than half of that. It’s a barrier that adds significantly to the real cost. If Sony doesn’t get over their reliance on over-priced proprietary garbage, it’ll be a huge hindrance if they ever wish to really compete in the handheld market.

Anyways, what do you think Gamesided readers? Are you excited for Borderlands 2 on the Vita? Excited for the Slim? Do you even care? Let us know in the comments!
