Twitch Announces Group Chat Beta

Want to chat with some people on Twitch without chatting with everyone? Now you can, though only in a limited fashion for the time being.

Twitch officially took the wraps off its Group Chat Beta on Thursday, which quite simply allows users to create invite-only chats that exist separately from the regular Channel Chat. There’s even a video by noted eSports caster and personality djWHEAT to explain how it works.

For the time being, only members of the Twitch Partner Program can create Group Chat rooms, though any user can accept an invitation to join one. Twitch says this is to ensure the service works and scales properly before it gets rolled out to all users, something that the minds behind the mega-popular streaming site say they want to do “as quickly as we can.”

Already, some people have been sounding off about the new feature on the official Twitch blog, but more formal feedback can be given via email at feedback@twitch.tv.
