New Adventure Time Game Coming From Little Orbit

Developer Little Orbit and Cartoon Network have announced that two new games will be released this year based on Cartoon Network properties. The first will center on the network’s most popular franchise, Adventure Time. While details regarding the second game are scarce, what’s known is that it will feature multiple characters from the network’s various series.

Last year, the two companies worked together to bring a video game based on TNT’s Falling Skies, called Planetary Warfare, to mobile platforms.

“Both TNT and Cartoon Network have tremendous experience developing both live-action and animated hits for a variety of audiences which makes them a perfect fit for what we want to achieve in terms of high-quality content,” said Little Orbit’s president Matt Scott, via official press release.

Cartoon Network echoed that sentiment. “Working with Little Orbit to create the Falling Skies game has been a great experience and from that, we’re excited to extend our partnership this year and develop new games based on some of the most popular characters and brands in the Cartoon Network portfolio,” said Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for CNE.

Past Adventure Time games have been developed by WayForward. While the first, Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage!!, garnered some critical praise with its Zelda II-inspired gameplay, the more recent Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW! was wrought with technical and design flaws.

While Little Orbit has extensive experience in adapting licensed properties – like Young Justice: Legacy, Monster High: 13 Wishes, and Barbie Dreamhouse Party – its library of games hasn’t exactly risen above anything remotely lukewarm in reception.

Both games are slated to release sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
