Real RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Announced, Still Disappoints

UPDATE: It appears as though a PC version of RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 will exist, in one form or another. The game’s Facebook page made a post earlier today, stating, “RollerCoaster Tycoon is back and it’s coming to mobile (first)! Rest assured, there is a PC experience in production now for release in Fall 2014. This is just the first step in bringing the series back to its fans this year! We are excited and hope you are too!”

There is no indication just how exactly the PC version would be released, but judging by the mention of Facebook in the trailer it is entirely possible it could be a social Facebook game.

ORIGINAL: If you are a true fan of the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, you would have known that a random person on the internet fooled thousands into believing that RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 was in development last summer. The “CEO” of Red Coin Games still insists that they’re making a sequel to the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, even though Atari has revealed today (via Eurogamer) that RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile is “coming soon” to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The game will be developed by On5.

That’s right, even though an official project has been announced, it comes in a free-to-play mobile game. Not all free-to-play games are one and the same, but to continue the series officially with a mobile title that utilizes Facebook integration and use cash items in an effort to help you climb an online leaderboard seems like a major departure from what was once a great theme park simulator.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile will be headed to Apple mobile devices soon, but a trailer is available now, right below.
