Titanfall Season Pass Finally Confirmed

It took a lot of hoo-ha-ing and speculation, but finally it has been confirmed. Titanfall will see both paid DLC and an official Titanfall season pass, Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella has revealed to GameSpot. However, that doesn’t mean that free updates won’t also be on their way, as well.

"We’re going to do paid DLC, we’re also going to do free updates. There are things that we want in the game that we didn’t get to ship in the final game. So we’ll add private matches and things like that for free. There will be some paid DLC. We’re going to do a season pass just because if you buy it up front, it’s a deal. We’re not going to do microtransactions. So a season pass is just buy it up front, and you get a better price."

The best part is that it still remains true that there will be no microtransactions in Titanfall. There is already a precedent to add more maps for online play in multiplayer shooters, and it makes sense for a studio as small as Respawn to utilize a tried-and-true method of providing a Titanfall season pass to give more content at a smaller cost, even if it is typically upfront before all the content is released. However, adding boosts or other purchaseables that bring nothing new in terms of gameplay to a game that already costs full price (or to buy back content artificially hidden behind a needless paywall) is outright insulting to consumers. Thankfully, they avoided that path.

Titanfall will be dropping on the PC and Xbox One on March 11th, with the Xbox 360 version coming on March 25th.
