Finally, we have a definitive release date for the North American release of Mario Kart 8. According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the racing game will be hitting stores on May 30, sold exclusively on the Wii U. To celebrate, they released a new gameplay trailer, highlighting several new stages.

That’s not all that is new coming to Mario Kart 8. In what I hope will involve some sort of story tie-in, Bowser is bringing his Koopalings into the mix. That’s right, the anti-heroes popularized from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World will be playable racers in the newest edition of the game.

A lot of the popular racing styles included from recent Mario Kart games are featured in the Mario Kart 8 trailer. Underwater racing, hang gliders and anti-gravity sections compose the heart of these stages, with racers using familiar items like red and green shells to take each other down. Hopefully the game will keep a high frame rate at the height of the explosive action.

Mario Kart 8 will be released exclusively on the Wii U May 30th. Keep it here at GameSided as we recap the rest of the events from the February 13th Nintendo Direct, and check out the newest trailer below.
