Following the acquisition of Double Helix Games by Amazon on Wednesday, Microsoft has announced that it plans on unveiling a new “development partner” for Killer Instinct soon.

In a statement released to Polygon, a representative from Microsoft stated that company will be working with a new team on the game, but it was uncertain whether or not the current season on the Xbox One will also see continued development by the first team.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavor,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon. “We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios. We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We’re excited about the future of this popular franchise.”

The next update to the game is due out in March, but with the news of Microsoft going to a new developer, it’s unclear if that is still the plan.
