PS4 System Update 1.60 Sees Official Headset Support

It’s coming almost three months after launch, but it’s never too late for now. Sony will release PS4 update 1.60 later tonight, giving the console full official PlayStation Pulse wireless headset support. It was announced on the PlayStation Blog, which also mentions the addition of a new headset (seen above): the PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset.

Launching earlier this month, the new headset works with your PS4, PS3, PS Vita and also on computers. It offers 7.1 surround sound, custom gaming audio modes (with some designed tailored for PlayStation games in mind), a noise-cancelling mic, customizable faceplates and more for $99.99 USD.

Hopefully, this is the beginning of PlayStation making the PS4 more and more compatible with devices and services they helped usher into the gaming world. There is still no DLNA support for the console, which still surreptitiously edges consumers towards Sony’s paid video and music subscriptions the longer and longer DLNA is unavailable. Additionally, you can now listen to gameplay audio with your headset, but still are unable to play simple MP3 files or insert audio CD’s. Get on it, Sony!

The PS4 update 1.60 will be available later today.
