Titanfall Will Not Feature Split Screen Multiplayer

We knew that Titanfall is going to be a multiplayer-only experience, but now it seems that the game will be an online-only multiplayer experience limited to one controller. That’s right, the developers at Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that there will be no split screen coming to Titanfall.

This means that, unlike popular shooters like the Call of Duty series, Halo, Resident Evil, Uncharted, Borderlands, and Left 4 Dead, Titanfall will not provide the opportunity to play couch-co-op-style. You can’t even play online with your friends in the same home.

Not every shooter needs to have split screen capabilities. Battlefield 4 (when actually able to play a full round of online multiplayer) limits each console to 1 player and is more than capable of creating an enjoyable experience. However, all these games have a single player campaign in them. Titanfall only has one playable type of gameplay, and that is by yourself with and against others online. It’s just unfortunate to see a game heralded as an “Evolutionary leap” of its genre to remove more and more of its staples.

It’s up to you to decide if the lack of this feature will sway your purchase of Titanfall when the game is released on March 11th for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
