A few months ago, Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley was coy when asked about if Everquest Next was coming to the PS4. Now it seems all but certain, as the man himself revealed in a Reddit AMA when questioned about if the game will be coming to Sony’s next-gen console; “Yes. We will absolutely be bringing EQN to the Playstation 4!”
While there still isn’t a definitive release date for either the PC or PS4 version of the game (nor is there confirmation that they will both be released at the same time), it does mean that the console version should be yet another free game download and requires no online subscription to play on the PlayStation 4. The current online gaming model allows for free-to-play games to not require a PlayStation Plus subscription for access.
This game has been in development for quite some time, and creating Everquest Next for multiple platforms would make a simultaneous release of Everquest Next take a little while longer. Should Sony Online Entertainment push the PS4 release back until after the PC version of Everquest Next comes out, or should both versions be released at the same time?
