Disney Leaves Star Wars 1313 Trademark ‘Abandoned’

Perhaps, in all the hustle and bustle of potential Star Wars VII casting, Disney may have forgotten about their active games trademarks? Some keen eyes at Joystiq have noticed that the trademark for bounty hunter game ‘Star Wars 1313’ has been abandoned by the parent company. The reason the trademark has expired is because, “No Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.”

This does not necessarily mean that Disney has abandoned the project as a whole. It can mean several things, including renaming the project, a change in development of the title or just leaving the development of the game while LucasArts finds a new licencee. It should mean, however, that the Star Wars 1313 that we have come to see in trailers and concept art will not likely look like the final product.

It’s a real shame. A Mature-rated Star Wars game is exactly what the doctor ordered. The concept of having to tailor such an expansive universe, full of dark, grimy and multi-faceted characters into PG-rated travesties has been going on for far too long.

We’ll just have to look out for the future of Star Wars in games media through the offerings of EA Games’ subsidiaries. Hopefully Star Wars Battlefront stays true to the series, else fans proclaim, “What a piece of junk!”
