Tetris Headed To PS4, Xbox One Through Ubisoft

Make or break question: Will it support 4k or not??!?

Tetris has been a staple for the puzzle gaming genre for 30 years, and now it is headed for 8th generation consoles. IGN is reporting that Tetris is headed towards the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after a partnership has been reached between Ubisoft and The Tetris Company.

It is astonishing to think that such a simple concept of falling blocks could revolutionize gaming in such the way it has today. Selling over 170 million copies on multiple platforms is no small task, but Soviet programmer Alexey Pajitnov has kept himself humble despite the overwhelming success. He could have ended it there. Intstead, he has gone on to provide the design or concept for over 15 games since.

Ubisoft’s partnership is just the most recent in a long line of licencing Tetris has undergone. Nintendo, Atari and EA Games are just some of the companies that have released the game or a variant thereof. Just how much different of an experience can we expect five generations after its first console iteration? That’s for Ubisoft to decide.
