Octodad: Dadliest Catch Trailer Is Emotionally Gripping (Video)

When Octodad: Dadliest Catch was revealed as a PS4 game back at this year’s E3, it looked to be straight silliness. An octopus dad has to keep his identity a secret from humans while prancing about day-to-day life in a stumbling fashion. What more could you ask for?

Today, Young Horses revealed in a launch announcement trailer that Octodad: Dadliest Catch will be heading to computer platforms on Steam, Humble and GOG on January 30th, with the PS4 version coming soon after. The first half shows off just how fun being a self-aware octopus can be. Making coffee, grabbing fruit at the supermarket and simple chores at home become difficult when your 8 limbs are flailing about all over the place!

Then comes the turn.

A sushi chef has made it his goal to destroy everything that Octodad has worked so hard to earn. Combine that with the mistrust of his wife, the constant lying he has to do to his family of four and a wanting to belong with fellow crustaceans and fish at the local aquarium makes you really feel for this character. The game appears to be much more than just a silly adventure game.

Check out the trailer below and see for yourself just how surprisingly emotional the game could be. Octodad: Dadliest Catch is coming to PC, Mac and Linux first on January 30.
