Tigers vs Athletics: Game 1

The first game of this series was a lonnnng one, going 13 innings due to lackluster offense. Yes, 11 runs were score between the teams, but there were only 2 doubles and no triples or HR’s, meaning that Victor Martinez‘s 3-5 with a double a walk and 2 RBI led the team. Andy Dirks had the other double, going 2-4 with 2 RBI. Max Scherzer started out looking bright in one half but ended up dark in the other half, lasting 5 innings and gave up 4 hits, 3 ER, 4 walks and 0 K’s. Luke Putkonen was the true talent in relief, going 4 innings and gave up only a hit and a walk with 4 K’s and no runs.

Just like in the regular season, the offense came from names that would make you scratch your head in 2012. Breakfast cereal Coco Crisp made up for a lack of slugging by going 3-5 with 2 stolen bases. Josh Donaldson only went 1-4, but had 2 walks. Bartolo Colon is still a baseball player somehow and is still producing, going 6 strong innings and giving up 3 ER over 6 hits, a walk and 5 K’s. A quality start is a quality start, and his team ended up with the win.
