This Nintendo 1DS Parody Website Is Pretty Awesome

When the Nintendo 2DS was announced a week ago, it was both shocking and odd news. It also perpetuated a trend shared with Microsoft’s Xbox One of giving new hardware a non-sequential number. Now someone has taken that confusion and created a website “announcing” the Nintendo 1DS.

nintendo1ds.com looks to be as legitimate as the official Nintendo of America website, which makes this parody even better. The Nintendo 1DS, in the site creator’s mind, is a device that, “brings the features of the Nintendo 3DS, minus 3D viewing, to your Phone or TV.”

If this product were real, it could play Nintendo 3DS games in three ways. The first is as a dual screen, using an Android 4.0+ or iOS 7.0+ phone docked in place and plays the games through Bluetooth. The second way is as a standalone single screen, allowing you to continue play even if your phone dies. The third way would be through your TV via HDMI dongle connection. In this hypothetical world, the choice is yours.

The sad thing about this satire is that the Nintendo 1DS is not that bad of an idea. Since the creator is using copyrighted material from Nintendo, it is unlikely that he or she could patent the idea. That means the ball is in your court, Satoru Iwata. Make this happen, and scrap the Nintendo 2DS while you can!
