PlayStation 4 Will Auto-Download Purchased Content From Smartphones

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida is a busy man. When he’s not on stage creating avante-garde moments at Sony’s PlayStation gamescom conference or falling asleep from David Cage’s voice during a Q&A panel he can be reached on his Twitter account. He replies to fan questions all the time, however most of them are directly at those fans. You can’t see his response directly in your timeline unless you follow both parties, which is why his recent revelation went unnoticed for so long.

The ability to download content on a gaming console via command from a smartphone device isn’t new technology, but it is interesting to see that the PlayStation 4 will be able to wake up from sleep mode, download the content, then return to sleep mode. It is still unclear on whether or not this feature will be behind the PlayStation Plus paywall, however seeing that the PS4 doesn’t require PS+ to do auto-updates my guess is that it will remain a free option.

The PlayStation 4 will launch on November 15 in North America and on November 29th in Europe.
