PS4 Party Chat Confirmed Not Behind Paywall

It was a shame to hear the announcement that the PS4 requires PlayStation Plus in order to play online games at this year’s E3. However, slowly but surely, PlayStation has confirmed that there are some features that don’t require the $50/year service, such as streaming services (like Netflix) or any free-to-play games (like Planetside 2). Today the PlayStationAccess Youtube account released video answering some frequently asked questions and confirmed that the PS4’s party chat will not be restricted to just PlayStation Plus users.

The video reiterated a lot of which Sony has said about the PS4, with a couple new tidbits of information.

-Your PS4 friend’s list will allow you to keep up to 2,000 friends in your friends list, a vast improvement over the PS3’s 100 friend limit.
-DualShock 3 will not be supported on the PS4, but the console will support your current PlayStation Move.
-The console has plans to support 3D gaming, with specific details revealed at a later time.

It’s not all that exciting news, but we’re in a lull right now. It’s the end of July, and we’re expecting to hear a lot about Sony’s next-gen console at gamescom, set for August 20th. Hopefully then we will get to hear about new IP’s, hands-on impressions and possibly a release date. But, for now, free party chat is a bonus.
